This is the brightest and most fun sensory play idea! Not only will your kids enjoy playing with it again and again, but depending on their ages they can even help you make the colored pasta. So cool! This is super simple to make and will be a hit with your kids of all ages.
Supplies:
- 20 bags of alphabet pasta (linked here). It is seriously so cute!
- liquid watercolors (exact set used for this blog is linked here but doesn't have yellow) This is another option that includes yellow (linked here). Either option is great!
- large ziploc bags (gallon size)
- Large container to put rice in. This is a great one! (linked here)
Directions:
You will use all 20 bags of the alphabet pasta (they are small). Divide the pasta equally into 6 gallon size ziploc bags. Pour a few big squirts of liquid watercolor into each bag. There is no exact measurement, just however much you think you will need to cover all of the pasta.
You will have one bag for red, one for orange, and so on. Once you have the paint in the bag, be sure to seal it tightly and vigorously shake the bag until all of the pasta is covered. Kids love to help with this part just be sure that the bag stays SEALED!! You can add more liquid watercolor if needed. Once the pasta is the color you like, open the ziploc bag and let it sit out to dry for a few hours. You could even spread it on parchment paper or non-stick foil if you want to speed up the drying process a bit. Follow these steps for every color of the rainbow.
Once the pasta is fully dry, dump it into the storage bin and play! Feel free to add some extra supplies to the bin to keep the play going even longer. Some great options of things to add are cups, spoons, scoops, funnels, cupcake liners, small bowls, etc. You can even add small figurines, small toys, or construction vehicles. The great thing with sensory bins is there is no "right" way to do it as long as you are having fun! You will want to save this in a sealed container or bag to be used again and again. With proper care and storage the pasta should last for a year or longer. Happy playing!
