How to Turn Pizza Night Into a Meaningful (and Inexpensive) Family Tradition

Every tradition has a little spark that sets it apart—and for us, it’s our reusable red checkered tablecloth. It might seem like a small detail, but in our house, that tablecloth now means something. The moment it hits the table, our kids know: it’s pizza night!

They come out of their rooms smiling, already buzzing with excitement. It’s amazing how a small visual cue can bring so much joy—and it’s something they’ll probably remember long after they’ve grown up.

This week, we added an extra layer of love to pizza night with a family activity I created using a simple printable. Here’s what we did:

• Each family member got a paper pizza with slices and a marker in a unique color.

• We walked around to each other’s pizzas before dinner, and on each slice, we wrote one thing we love about that person—in our designated color. You could also pass these around while you're eating!

• At the end, every person had a full pizza covered in kind, affirming words from their family.

• Then we read them out loud during dinner, laughing, tearing up (just a little), and soaking in the love.

It was such a special way to connect as a family, and it turned an ordinary meal into something we all genuinely cherished.
